Possible Ideas

Hometown Model Travel Brochure Improvement Plan

What does our hometown look like?

Possible Idea: Hometown Model

Activities:

  • Use boxes, paper, and craft materials to build a 3D model of their town.
  • Include roads, buildings, and natural features (e.g., rivers, mountains).
  • Collaborate as a class or work in small groups on different sections.
  • Display the model in the classroom or invite families to see it.
  • Take them on a tour of your model town and tell them about the places you’ve created.
  • If you have time, you can hide small items in the model and have people try to find them. Give them a list and see how many they find.

Why should people visit our hometown?

Possible Idea: Travel Brochure

Activities:

  • Students create colorful brochures highlighting their town’s attractions.
  • Include drawings or photos, fun facts, and suggestions for activities.
  • Share their brochures with classmates or display them in the library.
  • Alternatively, print some out and as you walk around your town you can give the brochures to tourists to let them know about some places that may not be in traditional guidebooks.

How can we make our hometown even better?

Possible Idea: Town Improvement Plan

Activities:

  • Brainstorm ideas to improve their town (e.g., a new park, fixing potholes, adding bike paths).
  • Draw or build a model of their proposed improvement.
  • Present their ideas to the class or write a letter to the mayor or leader of your town.
  • Students can expand this project by soliciting ideas from the community regarding what they think needs improvement.
