Can all birds fly? Most birds are able to fly. Are all birds able to fly? No, not all birds are able to fly.
Some birds have wings and feathers, but they cannot fly. They are called flightless birds.
These are penguins. They have feathers. They are birds.
They cannot fly. But they can swim well. They have powerful flippers to help them swim.
Emperors are the biggest penguins. The males are good dads. The female lays the egg. Then she goes off to feed. She is gone for 2 months. The male stays to look after the egg. It is cold. They must stay with the egg at all times.
This is a kiwi bird. Kiwis have wings and feathers. Kiwis are birds. But kiwis cannot fly.
Kiwis are brown and small. Kiwis look like kiwi fruits.
The kiwi has had a hard past. Once there were many kiwis. But then settlers arrived in New Zealand. They brought cats and dogs. They killed many kiwis.
It is now illegal to kill kiwis. They are safe now.
This is an ostrich. Ostriches have wings and feathers. Ostriches are birds. But ostriches cannot fly.
They are fast runners. They can run 70 km/h. That is as fast as some cars.
Ostriches are the biggest bird in the world. Ostriches lay the biggest eggs in the world. Do you know any flightless birds?
