Eating and drinking world records sound delightful. You might think that amazing food feats would make you hungry. But they aren't all as tasty as you might think. Some might put you off eating for a long time!
If you are feeling hungry, you might grab a hot dog. But one isn't enough for Josué Montero Durán. He holds the world record for the most hot dogs eaten in three minutes. He ate 9 hot dogs in Madrid, Spain, in 2019.
Chicken nuggets are a popular item on the McDonald's menu. But Leah Shutkever must like them more than most! She devoured 775.1 grams of nuggets in 3 minutes. Don't try this at home!
Leah Shutkever is a speed eater. She holds 18 over-the-top eating world records. She holds the record for the most sausages swallowed in one minute. She holds the record for the most tomatoes eaten in one minute. She doesn't plan on stopping!
In Manchester, Tim Cocker gulped his way to a world record. He broke the record for the fastest time to drink 500ml of water. He drank it in 1.75 seconds.
But not all drinking records contain water. Some are much more revolting. In 2017, André Ortolf became a new world record holder. He was the fastest person to drink a whole bottle of ketchup. He drank the bottle using a straw. He finished the bottle in 17.53 seconds. That's a record I won't be trying to break!
That's not the only record that André Ortolf holds. He has done some strange stuff! He holds the record for running the fastest 100m wearing ski boots. He holds the record for the fastest time to drink a cup of coffee. He held the record for the fastest time to drink 200ml of mustard. He is a serial record breaker. He surpassed many records.
Eating and drinking records are entertaining. But you must be safe. Eating fast can be dangerous. It is easy to choke on your food. A record is not worth hurting yourself for.
