Reading is something that many people love to do. You can find books or ways to read books everywhere. You can read books that you borrow from the library. You can read books that your friend lends you. You can read books on your phone or tablet. You can also listen to books.
Some people love reading so much that they make themselves a reading nook. This is a special place that they use to relax and read. It is usually a quiet and cozy place in your home.
My mom's reading nook is an armchair by the window. She can read and look out into the garden. My dad's nook is a bench in the garden. He likes to sit there and read mystery novels.
My mom's nook has cushions and a soft blanket. She sits down, gets cozy, and reads for hours. She reads magazines and short stories. She gets bored if a story is too long or not funny. She prefers to read many short stories.
Some people are speed readers. They can read really quickly. They can finish a book in a few hours.
My sister is a speed reader. She borrows many books from the library. She also likes to visit the secondhand bookstore to buy or exchange her books. She lends me her books after she finishes reading them. It takes me a lot longer to finish a book than my sister. I have a stack of books that she has lent me that I haven't finished.
Some readers only skim what they read. They get the gist of the reading, but not the details. My brother skim reads. He doesn't have much time to read, so he skims the stories. He does this for newspaper articles mostly. When he reads his favourite graphic novels, he takes his time.
Some readers join book clubs. This is a group that meets up and discusses a book they've all read. My grandmother belongs to a book club. She used to be librarian and has read thousands of books. She loves her book club. She says it keeps her mind young.
Some people love to read when they're travelling. They can read in a car, a bus, or a train. My grandpa can read when he's travelling. Unfortunately, I can't do this. I get travel sickness, so I listen to audiobooks instead.
My family loves books and reading. What does your family like?
