odds

"What are the odds?" is a common phrase used casually in North American English to refer to something that has happened or will happen that is or was extraordinary, unusual, or extremely unlikely.

Example usage:

  • Look! It's an albino deer! What are the odds?
  • Turns out our dads sat next to each other in a college class just like this. What are the odds?
  • I just won ten dollars on a scratch ticket for the second time in a row! What are the odds?
