When I was younger, I dreamed of being a vet. Maybe if I had heard of some of these quirky jobs, I would have changed my mind! Here are some unusual professions that exist that you might not know about.
Taking the subway in Japan can be difficult. There are 8.7 million people who ride the subway in Tokyo every single day. That's why they have special people called train pushers. Their job? To push as many people as possible into the subway.
Some of the strangest jobs in the world are in the field of quality control (QC). Every time you sit on a chair or use a table, you should say thank you to furniture testers. They spend all day sitting and lying on different furniture. Now you know why your couch is so comfortable. It was tested by a professional.
In 2012, the hotel chain Premier Inn hired Natalie Thomas to do one strange job. To bounce on beds. Her job title at the company is the in-house Director of Bed Bouncing. She tests out all the 46,000 beds owned by the hotel chain. She spends 20 minutes on each bed. She spreads out, rolls around...and bounces, of course.
If you are getting married and need more guests, why not invite a professional? You can pay professionals to attend weddings. But money isn't all they get. They even get free food. If you pay extra, they will even be an undercover bridesmaid.
If you are unfortunate enough to have to attend a funeral, there's someone you can hire for that too. A professional mourner will come with you to a funeral and cry with you.
Do you think window cleaning is boring? Not for these guys! Shark tank cleaners have to dive into aquariums with live sharks swimming around. Hope the sharks think you did a good cleaning job!
Amsterdam is known for two things: bicycles and canals. Sometimes, the two meet each other. That's why we need bicycle fishers. Each year, they fish around 14,000 rusty bikes from the city's canals.
Without a parent around, pandas can't look after themselves. That's why the baby pandas in the Giant Panda Protection and Research Centre in China require panda nannies. Their job? Spend 365 days a year with the pandas. Doesn't sound too bad to me!
Want the newest iPhone but don't want to wait in line for it? Why not pay a line-stander? Professional line-standers wait in line for big sales or new product releases. Patience is a must for this profession.
If you've eaten Chinese food at a restaurant before, you probably received a fortune cookie. Well, someone had to write that! Freelancers are paid to write funny or inspiring fortunes for fortune cookie manufacturers.
Teaching people to surf is a fun job. You spend all day in the water with smiley customers. But what if those customers had four legs? Some ocean resorts offer surfing lessons to dogs!
If none of these jobs interest you, maybe you'd like to become an armpit sniffer? That's right. Someone has to make sure the deodorant works!
