How can we share our favorite foods with others?
Possible Idea: Classroom Cookbook
Activities:
- Students write simple recipes for their favorite meals or snacks, including ingredients and steps.
- Recipes can be illustrated with colorful drawings.
- Combine the recipes into a class cookbook.
- Hold a cooking day where people can come and try out the recipes in the book.
- The booklet can be sold for a small fee.
- Proceeds can be used to fund a community-related project.
What makes a good menu?
Possible Idea: Design a Restaurant Menu
Activities:
- Students research menus from local restaurants.
- Students decide on the kind of restaurant they want to have and create a menu featuring the items they wish to sell.
- Students can then gather those items, if possible, and role-play a real restaurant situation.
- Members of the class can order and eat at the restaurant.
- Students can experience what it’s like to work in a restaurant.
Where does our food come from?
Possible Idea: Grow a Mini Garden
Activities:
- Plant seeds (e.g., herbs, lettuce, or beans) in small pots or a garden bed.
- Observe and record the plants’ growth over time.
- Create a poster showing the process of growing food from seed to harvest.
- Discuss how plants provide food for people and animals.
- Students can further create growing kits to distribute to those in the community which include seeds, instructions, and other resources to help grow a mini garden.
