Narrator: The story: The Golden Touch. Based on the myth of King Midas.
Once upon a time, there was a rich and powerful man named King Midas. He loved two things more than anything else in the world: his daughter and his gold. Even though he already had a lot of gold, he always wanted more.
One day, a magical figure appeared before him. The figure said,
Magical Figure: You may ask for one wish. Choose wisely.
Narrator: King Midas didn't even think twice. He said,
King Midas: I wish that everything I touch turns to gold.
Narrator: The magical figure warned him,
Magical Figure: Are you sure? That can be dangerous.
Narrator: But King Midas insisted. So the figure granted his wish and disappeared. At first, King Midas was thrilled.
He touched a stone. It turned to gold. He touched a flower, golden petals. He touched his table, pure shiny gold. He laughed with joy.
King Midas: This is amazing. I'm the richest man in the world.
Narrator: But then, King Midas sat down to eat breakfast.
He touched some bread. It turned to gold.
He touched a glass of water. It turned to gold too.
King Midas: I can't eat. I can't drink,
Narrator: he cried.
Suddenly, his daughter ran into the room and hugged him.
King Midas: No, wait,
Narrator: he shouted. But it was too late. She turned into a golden statue.
King Midas was heartbroken. He ran outside and cried,
King Midas: Take this curse away. I don't want it anymore.
Narrator: The magical figure appeared again.
Magical Figure: Have you learned your lesson?
Narrator: he asked. King Midas nodded.
King Midas: Yes. I now understand. Gold is not more important than love.
Narrator: The figure reversed the wish. The bread, the water, the table all turned back to normal. And, best of all, his daughter came back to life.
Moral of the story. Be careful what you wish for. Sometimes the most valuable things in life aren't made of gold.
