There are many family-friendly festivals all around the world. There is something fun for everyone.
Have you heard of "The Day of the Dead"? Don't worry, it is not a scary day. It takes place in November. It celebrates life, and it is a joyous celebration. It stimulates our senses with bright colours, dances, and art. You might see a myriad of skeletons and sugar skulls. The sugar skulls are elaborately decorated with many colours. They show the happy times we had with someone we lost. It is a momentous day to think about relatives who are no longer around.
People can listen to music and dance. Many people in Mexico take part in this festival. People will wear masks and costumes. Many people will paint their faces to look like sugar skulls. You can wear a fancy dress too. There are special treats for this day. You might see cookies with sprinkles, yum!
Are you prepared to be transported back hundreds of years ago? The Kids’ History Festival in the United Kingdom is a historical festival. There are many fun things to do. Children can play medieval games. You can learn how to use a sword. You can even try to build your own castle. It will feel like you time travelled back to the medieval times.
Guy Fawkes Day is also called Bonfire Night. It is on November 5th every year. People set up large bonfires and fireworks. Some people will make soup and baked potatoes using the bonfire. You might see a parade and vendors selling food. It is a fun time!
There are festivals that celebrate different cultures. They celebrate our differences and the melting pot. A festival in Nova Scotia, Canada, celebrates countries all over the world. It is usually in August. Like many festivals, food is often the focal point. People can try food from many cultures. You could have cabbage rolls for lunch and then kebab for dinner.
Have you heard of Children's Day? June 1 is Children's Day all around the world. It is a day for children and youth. Many countries have their own celebrations too.
In Japan, the children and youth have three special days. Hina Matsuri is on March 3rd. It is also called Girls' Day. On this festival, families decorate their homes with beautiful dolls. Tango no Sekku is another festival that is on March 5th. Families hang kites outside their homes. Each kite is shaped like a carp, which is a kind of fish. The carp shows that the children will grow up to be strong and brave. Shichi-Go-San is on November 15th. It is a festival for boys aged three or five, and girls aged three or seven. Children wear traditional clothing, and they get treats from adults.
India celebrates Children's Day on November 14th. The children still have to go to school on this day, but there are no classes. Children play fun games at school. The children might get gifts from their parents too.
Children's Day is a day to celebrate children around the world. What will you do on Children's Day?
