Do you remember the coldest winter day? Maybe you built a snowman. What about the hottest summer day? A hot summer day is perfect for ice cream. Cold and hot days on Earth are perfect for us.
Earth is called the "Goldilocks Planet". Earth is not too cold. Earth is not too hot. It is just right for us.
Some of the gas giants are also called ice giants. The ice giants have the coldest temperatures. Neptune is an ice giant. It is the 8th planet from the Sun. Neptune takes 60,190 days to orbit the Sun. That means one year on Neptune is 60,190 days.
Neptune is the coldest planet on average. The average temperature on Neptune is -201°C. Neptune is a windy planet. It has strong winds.
Uranus is an ice giant too. It is a special planet. It is the only planet that rotates on its side. Uranus is very far from the Sun. It is the 7th planet from the Sun. Uranus has the coldest recorded temperature. It had a temperature of -224°C.
Have you seen Venus? It is easy to see Venus. We can see Venus from Earth. Venus is the second planet from our Sun. It is the hottest planet.
Most of our planets rotate anticlockwise. That means it is moving backwards around the clock. Venus is different. Venus rotates clockwise. Clockwise means the same way a clock moves.
These planets are all part of our solar system. They all orbit the Sun. No two planets are the same. One day we will find more planets. It could be a cold planet. Or it could be a hot planet. We might even find another "Goldilocks Planet".
