When we talk about living things, we think about humans and animals. But did you know that plants are living things too?
They breathe like us. They drink and eat like us. They can get injured like us. They can heal like us.
Plants start their life as a seed. The seeds are from the flower of the parent plant. Seeds are carried by birds, insects, or the wind.
When the seed is under the ground, it grows small roots. The roots grow in the soil. It becomes a seedling. A seedling is the start of the plant's life.
After its roots have grown, it begins to sprout. A plant starts to grow from the seed. It grows upwards and looks for the sunlight. It needs sunlight to grow.
If the plant has enough sunlight, it will grow bigger and bigger. But it needs more than just sunlight. The plant needs water and other nutrients to grow.
The plant gets water from its roots. When it rains, the soil gets wet. Then, the roots take water from the soil. They also take healthy nutrients from the soil.
Most plants have leaves. Leaves help plants get sunlight and carbon dioxide. Leaves can be big or small. Leaves can be different shapes.
Leaves breathe in carbon dioxide. They breathe out oxygen. Oxygen is what we breathe in. Carbon dioxide is what we breathe out. Plants and humans work together to live.
When the plant is old enough, it grows flowers itself. These buds contain seeds. Birds, insects, and the wind take the seeds and spread them. The cycle starts again! This is how more plants and trees grow.
Plants are helpful to humans. We should be grateful to plants. We should show them respect.
